Goa has a natural beauty, a village character and an architectural heritage that cannot be replaced by city-type development. When I started Sun Estates, my ambition was not simply to build more homes. I wanted to create homes and structures that belonged to their surroundings—homes that would stand the test of time and perhaps become a small part of Goa’s architectural legacy. Over the last 30 years, we have deliberately chosen quality over quantity, the right location over easy opportunities, and architecture over commercial expediency. We have experimented with architects, designers and ideas because I have always believed that a home should evoke an emotion. It should create memories. It should make you want to come back. Commerciality was always important, but it was secondary to doing the right thing by the land. Today, when I look back at what Sun Estates has created, I am proud not only of the homes and hospitality projects, but of the employment we have generated, the communities we have contributed to and the fact that some of our projects have put Goa on an international map. My aspiration is simple: when people look back at Sun Estates many years from now, I want them to say that these were homes and places built with heart, mind and soul—and that they made a meaningful contribution to Goa.
